Oracle9i Application Server Increases Market Reach, Surpassing BEA and IBM In Growth Rate Independent Reports and Customer Adoption Rates Highlight Growing Momentum For Oracle9iAS biz.yahoo.com REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., June 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (http://www.oracle.com/tellmemore/?1381350 ) Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL) today announced strong momentum for Oracle9i Application Server, as validated by numerous third-party research reports. These reports demonstrate the growing presence and strength Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS) holds in the application server market, which analyst firm IDC projects to reach $4.4 billion by 2006. Reports from IDC, the International Oracle Users Group (IOUG), other leading analyst firms, and a rapidly growing customer base, confirm that Oracle9iAS is the fastest growing product in the application server market. Oracle9iAS is the first application server to integrate Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), portal, workflow, integration and other middleware features into a single product. Oracle's application server has gained tremendous momentum in the past year with enterprise companies looking to leverage one product for the development, deployment and management of Java and Web services applications. The tight integration with the Oracle database further attracts long-time Oracle customers who have previously had to look to BEA and IBM for their application server needs.
"Given that the large majority of application servers access data from Oracle databases, Oracle seems particularly well positioned to pose a competitive threat to the two market leaders," said Michele Rosen, IDC Analyst, in the firm's recently released "2001 Worldwide Application Server Forecast." The report notes that Oracle9i Application Server has 12 percent market share -- the third highest in the industry -- and has grown its revenue 56 percent since last year, which is more than any vendor in the application server arena.
Another leading industry analyst firm also recently released its 2001 application server market share report highlighting new license revenue for the Unbundled Application Server Market and the Application Platform Suite Market. Oracle9i Application Server ranked number three in the Application Platform Suite Market.
Growing Customer Base Speeds Oracle9iAS Momentum
International Oracle Users Group (IOUG) has confirmed increased customer adoption of Oracle9iAS: "Based on feedback we have received from our members, we estimate about one-fifth of Oracle database users have selected Oracle9iAS over competing products such as BEA WebLogic and IBM WebSphere," said Richard Niemec, President, IOUG. "It also appears that about one-third of the remaining Oracle database customers are currently evaluating using Oracle9iAS over the competition." With approximately two-thirds of BEA WebLogic customers using an Oracle database, this data represents a significant shift in preference for Oracle9iAS.
Integrated J2EE, Portal and Middleware Technologies Spur Adoption
Oracle9iAS features breakthrough J2EE-certified technology that makes it faster to install, develop, and deploy and run Internet applications. For Oracle customers, this means that for any given Internet application requirement -- whether it is an e-commerce storefront, personalized portal, online Web service, or transactional business application -- Oracle9iAS allows them to slash hardware costs and reduce complex tasks.
For example, by offering tight integration with portal technology that enables companies to maintain one interface for e-business applications and transactions, Oracle9iAS has attracted 3,000 portal customers in just the last year. With five times more customers than BEA WebLogic Portal, Oracle9iAS portal is used by customers such as Ford, Goodyear Tires, Honeywell, Maysteel, United States Army, United States Geological Survey, EBS Portals and EPL Inc. Customers using Oracle9iAS portal technology cite benefits such as security, scalability and ease of use.
"Oracle9i Application Server delivers powerful Web-based reporting and business intelligence capabilities to analyze our national water quality data," says Sandy Williamson, NAWQA National Data Team Leader, United States Geological Survey. "With the Oracle9iAS built-in portal framework, we have integrated access to these applications and can quickly publish results, for both internal and external audiences."
"We selected Oracle9i Application Server based on its robust portal functionality, which allows us to fully design, develop and implement personalized portals for our credit union customers," said Michael Stoeckert, Chief Information Officer for EPL, a technology company that provides products and services to credit unions. "In addition, the extensive security features in Oracle technology help ensure all our system components -- including Web, application and database servers -- are secure. Being in the financial business, where more and more of our customers and partners are conducting business over the Web, Oracle9iAS provides the insurance we need to extend to our customers. No other application server can provide this." |
