EDS buys Web site management business from Loudcloud

NEW YORK, June 17 (Reuters) - Services giant Electronic Data Systems Corp. (NYSE:EDS - News) said on Monday it acquired Loudcloud Inc. (NasdaqNM:LDCL - News)'s Web site management business for $63.5 million, sending shares in the Internet services provider soaring more than 25 percent.

EDS said it also planned to license Loudcloud's information technology management software, called Opsware in a three-year deal worth $52 million.

Loudcloud's shares soared more than 28 percent, or 47 cents, to $2.08 by midday on the Nasdaq, where the stock was among the top percentage gainers. EDS was up $1.23, or more than 2 percent, at $49.17.

Sunnyvale, California-based Loudcloud -- which was among the few companies to file for a public offering in 2001 -- also said it changed its name to Opsware Inc, to reflect the fact it will now focus on IT management software.
