Dear Ray: I was in the Kent State area the day of the incident. It was nothing like you say. A number of inexperienced Nat'l Guardsman were faced by a large number of students. The students were very rowdy, hurling rocks, bottles and all kinds of things, plus screaming their heads off. The Guardsmen kept backing off and up a hill but the students kept after them. Suddenly a loud "BANG" occurred (no one knows to this day what it was or who fired if in fact it was a shot) and the Guardsmen thought they were being shot at and opened fire. It was all a huge mistake, but I can ASSURE YOU it was the STUDENTS not the Guardsmen who instigated the event, sadly some of the students injured or killed were merely passerbyers and not involved in the incident. So far as I am concerned, all the students in the RIOT should have had their pants pulled down and given the licking they deserved. IN PUBLIC. I was DISGUSTED with them. JDN
