China Unicom Vice President, Director Li Zhengmao Quits Posts

Tuesday June 18, 12:43 am Eastern Time

HONG KONG -(Dow Jones)- China Unicom Ltd. , the Hong Kong -listed unit of the mainland's second largest mobile operator, said Tuesday that Vice President and Director Li Zhengmao has resigned from his positions.

Li, 40, will head parent China United Telecommunications Corp.'s unit in China 's southwestern province of Yunnan, Unicom spokeswoman Sophia Tso said.

The appointment will end his two-year service in Hong Kong , where he was responsible for the company's investor relations.

Li previously served in various senior positions with China United. Prior to that, he was a professor at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China .

China Unicom's shares have dropped more than 56% from their initial public offering price of HK$15.84. At around 0410 GMT ( 12:10 a.m. EDT) , they were down 0.7% at HK$6.80, while the blue-chip Hang Seng Index was up 0.36% at 10870.9.

The stock has come under pressure this week on worries that promotional offers for its code division multiple access network service in some provinces will cut into earnings.
