Boy, I wouldn't want to be an exec in the fast food industry these days. Seems like that market is as saturated as their food. <tee hee hee>

But seriously, they have to pump the food out in something like 28 seconds, (I'm making that up, but it's a really, really short time), or the customer goes down the block to the competitor. Plus margins are so low they can't really cut prices, so they keep making the specials bigger and bigger. I think the average fast food lunch special today probably contains enough calories to heat a small city for a day or so.
