Wow, what a game!
When that kid scored the golden goal I must say I was overcome with emotions....tears, tears of happiness that is<g>
As I expected, the South Koreans run the Italians to the ground. The Italians clearly showed they were on life support and they probably should have never come out of the second round. And yes, we have another edition of the Movie, Part XXXXXI....hold the lead, defend, defend, defend....Well if it works fine. If it works and can score in counterattacks (like the US) is brilliant. If you can not hold the lead by making another stupid mistake two minutes from the end, well YOU DESERVE TO LOSE! In OT, it was all S, Korea relentlessy attacking. If the Italians could hold for five more minutes they likely would have won in PKs due to their experience. Vieri missed the opportunity to put it away in the 90th minute, hey, great teams capitalize on others' mistakes, this Italian team sure did not. I was going to say that this Ahn kid should have never started the game, missed a PK, and was just ouplayed...until the golden GOLAZO of the tournament...Guess who was marking him....old statesman Maldini who, clearly due to fatigue, could not get in front of him and did not even have the legs to jump! This play was kind of representative of the whole game....Young super fit legs putting relentless pressure on you NON STOP! Folks, this Korean team can flat out play and can sure beat the Spaniards who feel mentally ready to go home IMHO...Wow, who would have ever thought we will be seeing US, Korea, Senegal and Turkey in the Round of 8!!!!!!!!!!!
As far as the red card goes, I disagree. This ref was outstanding today, I kind of like his "attitude" and his whole style. Totti made a nothing to an Oscar like tumble.....I am sick of this sh*t, this is soccer, not the stage for dancers and ballarinas....this should serve as notice that this crap will not be tolerated...this and the obscene stuff that goes in the box in set pieces...by the way, the ref should have given TWO PK's, not just one in the same play<g>
Another one who deserved a red was Vieri, his elbows broke half of the Koreans' players noses<g>
The ref should have poured it on on yellows to the Italians for dissent, their whining makes the Lakers and Kings look like true gentlemen<g>
For Italian fans, please would you give your coach a pacifier for god's sake.....or, come to think of it, a one way ticket to a nursing home where he belongs....
Italy, bye, bye, good riddance, Next!
I again overslept and I did not get to see the Japan game, please post your thoughts if you saw it. Too bad the Japanese could not advance |
