Hmmm.

Is it good for our children to learn that if they fail to take responsibility for themselves, somebody else will come along and do it for them?

I have my doubts.

But then, my concept of schooling is different from today's. I think you should have three or four grade groups. You start in grade group 1. You stay there until you have mastered what you need to master to move up to grade group 2. An "average" student might learn this in three years. Some might get it in two, some in four or five or six. When you have shown that you are ready to move up, you do.

Similarly, through the system. Graduation happens when you have gotten to grade group 4 and have mastered the necessary skills to graduate. It could happen perhaps anywhere from roughly age 12 to age 25, depending on the interests of the student, their motivation, their native ability, etc.

I know, it'll never work. But it should.
