I have said that it is the parents' role to motivate young students, so you're mixing up roles here. More accurate would be to say that if a child doesn ot eat it's not the restaureant's job to see that they eat. Which I hope we both agree with. It's the restaurant's job to put wholesome food in front of the child, not to force it down his mouth.

It is the parent's job to make sure that the child has adequate nutrition. But if the child doesn't want to eat, and will not be harmed by missing a meal (as, for example, a diabetic might), IMO the parent should say fine, but you get no food until the next meal. And enforce that.
