Joe, my favorite part of the article was:

<Oltsik said he expects Active Directory to be released around the middle of next year. "Novell's really got to get momentum going with NDS before Active Directory hits, or the game is over," he said.>

Novell has an unblemished track record for pulling defeat from the jaws of success. Why everyone in the world isn't short this stock is beyond me. Also, why anyone would be long on this stock is beyond me. If you want success in the networking industry, why go with Novell? Has anyone heard of Cisco, 3Com or Ascend? I choose blatant failure and gross mediocrity, and that is why I love Novell.

People are suddenly excited about POET, a database company. Novell used to own one of those--it was called Btrieve. Sold it.

You know, I am a lot happier with Herr Dr. Schmidt at the helm of Novell. It took Captain Bob 18 months for the stock to drop in half. Dr. Schmidt, PhD, has met that challenge in much less time. It is very reassuring that the company is not for sale, too. Nip those rumors in the bud before they begin.

Short and proud!
