OTOH, we can take the simple default position that the signed it and understood what they signed. If they wish to deny that and then prove it id challenged, they are certainly free to do so.

If the bank sees your signature on a check, do they assume it was forged and refuse to pay? Or do they assume it is genuine and pay?

A likely story. How about they did sign it? They may not have knew what they were signing, but most likely they did sign it.

Then, when they found out what they'd signed, they decided they didn't sign it.

How's that? Pass the plausibility test?
