"Most people involved in Baseball/Football that I know of are not good candidates for soccer stardom."

Well, most people involved in Baseball/Football are not good candidates for baseball/football stardom, either. The real question is how do you organize/disorganize a sport (soccer) enough to draw out and keep out as many interested players as possible for as long as possible. And not just to produce contenders in the Cup, but to allow the maximum number of youth to experience the sport for as long as their interest holds. As I noted, basketball is the purest of these mindshare plays, followed by American football.

After the US loses, soccer will lose its luster here for another 4, 8, 12 years. Most people can name more WNBA team cities and names than MLS ones.
