RE:"Your statement that "AMD engineers were like the keystone cops" was just bashing. Actually, I think it's pretty clear that AMD has good engineers"

I'm not proud of it but totally disagree. AMD is continuously slipping dates and designing unmarketable chips. Worse that that their transition from one process or design to the next is so incongruent that they end up nearly suffering losses before they get the improvements up to speed. All this is exacerbated by their designs running out of Mhz and them having to rely on a PR rating. Trouble is that the OEMs only go along with the PR rating half heartedly.
Hammer will be over a year late. Palomino was 6 months late, Hector said 5 new chips by February 2001 back in November 2000, we didn't see Palomino desktop until September 2001. AMD missed the whole Christams season and ended up dumping all the T-birds at fire sale prices while Intel kicked butt by stuffing the OEms with P4s for Christmas.
It's starting to look like deja vu all over again. AMD has very little window left to get T-bred up a couple speed grades. Otherwise the P4 will just take the bulk of the high end back to school/Christmas season again. In which case AMD will just have to beg a dump again.
Even if AMD gets T-bred up a couple speed grades it's just a stop gap at best as K7 has run it's course.
Looks like AMD is hedging on Hammer at best right now...they may even be forced to release it at 1600 Mhz earlier than they wanted because they are desperate. Kind of reminds me of the K5.

Yeah, I probably insulted a few engineers at AMD...most probably just do what they are told. On the other hand...what about all the shareholders out there that have really been "insulted"?
