The japanese auto companies proved otherwise in the 70's. they went for market sahre first. Then again, they weren't up against Intel either.
I suppose AMD could shut down some fab capacity and try and charge more for their chips. In that case Intel would just wipe them out quicker.
AMDs biggest problem is Mhz and no price premium because of it. The only thing they can do is somehow cut costs and make money selling $50 chips and that doesn't seem to be working.
