On the human interest side: A forest service technition has admitted to starting the fire in Colorado that has now consumed about 121,000 acres and rages on. We keep hearing promises of wet weather but the fire creates its own weather so its getting pretty discouraging to the fire fighters.

Terry Barton originally said she discovered the fire while on a routine patrol. She later confessed that she had started a fire to burn a letter from her estranged husband. She says she built a regular camp fire ring but that the fire jumped from the ring and spread. Authorities don't believe this story either.

U.S. Attorney John Suthers has expressed doubt about Barton's story. He declined to comment beyond court filings, but noted the criminal complaint alleged she "willfully and without authority set on fire timber, underbrush, grass and other inflammable material."

People have died, many thousands have been evacuated and lost homes, not to mention the loss of public assets in the billions. The charges against Barton could include every thing from manslaughter to arson.
