OT As to your old lady, no comment.
As to big dogs smelling... This is just MHO, but I don't think size has much to do with it.
Long haired dogs get dirtier, in general -- unless they are like augieboo, who is a bit of a neat freak.
Outdoor dogs get a lot dirtier, obviously. Except for walkies, augie only goes outside to do his business, scare away would-be invaders, (like anybody parking on the street next to our home, the UPS guy, the mail man, etc.), or, on a particularly nice day, to take a 10 or 15 minute sun bath.
Great Danes have short hair, and although they tend to be thought of as outdoor doggies because of their size, most of them prefer to hang out indoors, so smell usually isn't a problem.
Quite sadly, the very large breeds tend not to live very long. ): |
