Dan, "Looks great for Opteron. With the retirement of Alpha and PA-Risc, there certainly is a wide open opportunity in the market for a COTS high performance server line, and the rest of the CPU market, as well." I completely agree. I always believed that the "retirement" of Alpha was good news for AMD for it eliminates the most powerful competitor for the Sledgehammer. At that time, many people believed that the Sledgehammer would never play in the same league but as some on this thread (including you) have rightfully pointed out there is no "natural barrier" for the Sledgehammer, at least on the long run.
