I do think the US wants to stop the cross-border infiltration, but I think it is a leap of faith rather than logic to say it is because the US agrees with India's borders claims.

The US, IMHO, wants to stop the current shooting and defuse the immediate threat of armed conflict between India and Pakistan (for its own selfish interests--it is focused on stopping terrorism and needs both Pakistani and Indian support to accomplish this), but I think its position with respect to India/Pakistani border disputes is that they should negotiate a settlement.

And in case I am wrong about the US's position, then that is what the US's position should be because it is my opinion that no externally imposed peace agreement by a big power will last.
