>Why is football (soccer) in the US not as popular as in Europe or South-America etc.?<
Many people have been wondering about this. More and more kids play soccer here. I learned that in Toronto, soccer has become #1 sport among teenagers(further confirmation needed, but I think it's not far off even if it's not correct). One thing is sure, Soccer players and fans are growing in a fast rate here. I think soccer will gradually replace American football as the top sport in N. America in 20 year's time.

We should also ask people who really know both soccer and American football to speak their opinions.
