I played a little American Football (yes, I am crazy). I got more banged up than I ever did playing soccer, but I had to try it.

As a sport, I like soccer better (duh!) for the fact that is faster and continuous, no stop... However, there is a mental attitude about American Football (at least when I played), that makes you very competitive. It is hard to describe, and only recently I have been observing it in soccer.

When I played soccer, there was a very "individualistic" attitude, (which is not all bad), particularly by the strikers (forwards), who many of them felt they had the status of "stars" This leads to that "prima donna" BS if it gets away... I played central defense/sweeper, therefore, we were the "destroyers" of all things moving -gg (although as a sweeper I did help to create a little-g)

There is no doubt in my mind that as a fitness sport soccer is the better of the two (and the best of all "team sports" for that purpose imo) Never mind Triathlon, those guys are from outer space -gg

So the mental attitude is what I found best about American Football, however, no question that some of them linesmen are ill intentioned at best and probably criminals if they did not released all that furor -gg

I played co-ed Rugby ONCE --- it was a blast!, but that's only because of the girls...

However I would not play Rugby even if they paid me millions... (I am not THAT crazy), those guys are insane.

I saw a Rugby game between England and France at Twickenham stadium (in England, and supposedly, the Cathedral of Rugby Union) I enjoyed the game, England won and it was a lot of fun. I remember looking at the program and there was not a SINGLE player that he did not have all front teeth missing... AND THEY WERE ALL SMILLING !!

You have to have something wrong in your brain to play that sport... That OR... a complete numbness and disregard to and for pain.

I wonder if the Welsh (who are reputedly the best Rugby players), play like that because they are also very good beer drinkers (assuming you accept the term "English beer" as beer --oops)

-or-

They are great beer drinkers because the way they play Rugby LOL !
