I heard from a graduate student the other day whose daughter had been evaluated at her local school. The school system thinks that she is distracted, socially distant and depressed even though she has a few good friends, wants to stay with a task until it is finished and sings continually little happy songs. She's 6 years old!!!! Their recommendation was...family therapy, remove her turban even though she is a Muslim and take all the black crayons from her crayon box! How's that for trying to make a little munchkin fit into a school's mold of what "normal" is all about! Many of these well-intentioned people have no clue! Let these munchkins listen to their own drummer for goodness sake and let them keep on singing their own song!
