I have found that the "higher" one goes up in an agency, (doesn't matter what kind), that the job becomes dealing more and more with politics. My arena was higher ed. At the top end, you are dealing with politics on a day to day basis. You wind up fighting for more state $$$$ with the legislature/governor/other agencies to fund "your" system. This is something that I never had the ability/wish to do. Besides, I have a tendency to piss people off because I wouldn't "play their game". Being 6'3" tall, and 225#, + add a rather "grumpy" face, I could get away with allot of the bs I pulled. Stick in there, and continue to fight the good fight!
