Well said re GMGC and GM.
GMGC's a victim of a number of unfortunate circumstances, many of which you mentioned. Whether any one of us could/would have done a better job of managing this company (or any other money-losing tech company over the past two years) during these difficult times can be argued 'til the cows come home.
It's easy in hindsight to say we coulda/shoulda/woulda done this or that. But now with the benefit of 20/20, one of the operational things I think I would have done differently would have been to concentrate much more heavily on bringing in new non-OnStar-related business. But I think management (as was I) was honestly counting on a faster ramp-up of OnStar/PC/VA than has in fact occurred, and was consequently late, or less than vigorous, in going after non-GM business.
But in any case, it's obviously been a very tough time to be landing new accounts in the tech world recently. And I do give past management credit for avoiding a debt-laden balance sheet. Rose was adamant about no debt, even though that avenue of financing might have made some sense a while back. We'd probably be a goner already if we had debt. Some would say that the equity dilution (past, present and pending) is even worse. Could be, but at least the company is still around. Is it all too late now? Very possibly. But where there's still life, there's still hope (thanks, Spock) . . . Beside Rocky, I keep thinking of Sarava and Stewball.
Regarding nice looking, don't flatter yourself . . . I'm told by numerous admirers that I am by far the best-looking of the bunch (and even some of your own best friends tell me that!).
Re only two of us being "useful sources of information," I don't think that's a fair statement by Dave. IMO, Laura would often provide very helpful insights about GMGC and its prospects, don't you think? Sure, she generally presented an upbeat assessment of things, but isn't that what most company IR reps do?
Re Laura leaving, she was NOT let go by the company, but rather left due to personal circumstances which couldn't/shouldn't be discussed . . . only if someone were very close to her would they understand. GMGC will probably not hire a replacement immediately (for obvious reasons), but at least temporarily Leslie will be taking over the day-to-day IR and PR functions for the company:
Leslie Green Stapleton Communications 1 + 650 470 0200 leslie@stapleton.com
And as far as Dave is concerned, well, his conduct is really very understandable . . . he's just jealous that Laura didn't call him first with the news ;-)
