Oligarchy and advocacy of democracy, self-rule or accession- a Paradox
I see the points in argument. Just a few days ago Vajpayee pointed out that there are more Muslims in India than in Pakistan and only 5% of Indian Muslims are Kashmiris. That being so, why is it that the Kashmiri Muslims (5%) are a special concern to the pakis?
Pakistan has no say in the matter of installation of sensors on the Indian side, though certain parts of the terrain in the LoC are not amenable to such installation. If accommodation with Pakistan means parting with Kashmir, it is like asking the US to part with Alaska to the Russians or California to Mexico. Lot of things transpired for such ceding of Kashmir to the Pakis occur.
In case of war both countries will lose but the very existence of Pakistan is in question. As India's future President Abdul Kalam said, the nuclear deterrent worked in preventing war, helping both sides prevent death and destruction.
A terrorist operating in Kashmir or anywhere is a potential threat to US assets and the US is not going to sit around anymore waiting for them to show up in the US. They will make a preemptive strike.
Pakistan being an oligarchical state for most of its existence hasn't earned the right to advocate democracy or self-rule or plebiscite or accession to pakistan for the Kashmiris, while its own citizens are oppressed under a military rule. It is like a Lady of Leisure in active practice of her profession asking the teenagers practice abstinence.
