Lucent Accuses Broadcom of Infringing Semiconductor Patents By Susan Decker
Philadelphia, June 21 (Bloomberg) -- Lucent Technologies Inc., the biggest U.S. maker of telephone equipment, filed a lawsuit accusing Broadcom Corp. of improperly using Lucent's patented technology in semiconductor chips for modems.
Broadcom, the largest designer of chips for cable modems, is accused of making, using or importing to the U.S. ``semiconductor devices and software used in analog modem applications'' that infringe three Lucent patents, the suit says. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia.
Lucent, based in Murray Hill, New Jersey, is seeking damages for what it claims is willful infringement of its patents, and is asking a court to block Broadcom from making or selling any infringing devices or systems.
Officials with Irvine, California-based Broadcom weren't immediately available for comment. Broadcom shares fell 32 cents to $19.29 in early afternoon trading, while Lucent shares fell 9 cents to $2.33. |
