It may have been Zinn on CSPAN last year, after some radical talk about not-war, in the midst of post-9/11 hysteria:

He said he got a call from a 4-star general, who wanted to have lunch and talk.

Interviewer asks him what did the general want to talk about, with a renowned peacenik like Zinn? Did he threaten you, try to persuade you, what?

"No", says Zinn, "he was very cordial, and wanted to hear what I had to say about why things would have worked out had wars not taken place."

I thought that was an interesting and broad-minded general.
I'll have to research it, I think Zinn gave the general's name.
Not that the general intended to give up combat, but the idea of non-combat solutions is worthy of investigation, especially to one who knows the true costs.

The thing about Zinn is when you see him in an interview, he's the least radical individual imaginable.
