"It's practical good ethics to have society cautious about actions that have great consequences." Yes indeed it is. However,... "...how long they make their victim squirm before..." People are killed in all kinds of situations where there is no victimization or torturous efforts designed to cause a squirm of any sort. It would help me deal with your perspective (which I believe has an ethical stand) if you could avoid infusing it with this type of contagious rhetoric.
