The other question is whether moral standards should be imposed by federal action, or by nongovernmental community pressure. I greatly prefer the latter. The most effective antidote to an X-rated movie theater I've ever seen was the campaign in a Seattle neighborhood that opposed it to photograph patrons entering the theater and posted them on the web. All just community effort. The theater shut down fairly quickly. It would be no problem for community volunteers, if they were concerned about pornographic viewing in a library, to monitor the use and photograph look over the shoulder of young people viewing improper material. It's a public area, they have a right to be there. But the kids will soon quit, I believe. If communities take the responsibility for themselves, we don't need any laws.
