What a laugh riot...he's gonna get that poor $chmuck into all the sectors that are scheduled to get their turns in the barrel next!<NFG>

In any case, I think it's important that you create a portfolio that's not as vulnerable to downturns as your last one was. Among the things you'll want to consider are: Covering most of the bases in terms of asset classes -- i.e., large-cap stocks, small-caps, value and growth, bonds;

Patron's note: Note the obvious and glaring omissions of a) Overseas assets and b) Gold and PM's? This guy'll get smoked by the fantastic imploding ClownBuck!

owning a broad variety of the 10 or so main industry sectors, as opposed to being heavily invested in a few like telecom or tech or whatever; resolving not to fool around with your allocations too much after you set them.

In other words, no big moves from stocks to cash or from one sector to another!

And don't tinker!
I could see maybe a bit of fine tuning to adjust to market conditions. But aside from the very occasional small adjustment, you pretty much want to limit yourself to rebalancing your portfolio at the end of the year to bring it back within shouting distance to its original proportions.

Great, the guy finally extricates himself from the bubble and it's aftermath, with a few sheckles to shelter him while he's unemployed, and this clown tells him to throw it back into the casino! Right as wave 5 is getting in gear! UFB! UFB! UFB!
