I have apartment paid up and owe absolutely nothing. To live in Curitiba, I spend an average 3.400 Brazilian Reais, per month for food, taxes, insurance, fuel, building administration, electricity, telephone, cable TV and Internet via cable and International school for my daughter.

That was about USD1500 when the Real was 2.32 per USD and now is about USD1250. Quality of life is reasonably good. Not so much security problems like Sao Paulo or Rio.

My aparthotel here in Bangkok, alone costs me USD1500!!!

I am expecting to be spending only USD1.000 or so by August.

Working abroad, and earning hard currency, is very cheap. If you have an income in Real it is a tremendous struggle.
