Well, try moving beyond the gloom and doom. The world is a big place. This means that every day a lot of people will die, whether of cancer or being raped and killed, or being crushed by Israeli tanks, or blown up by mortars in Pakistan. Sometimes entire cities will die, whether in Hiroshima or Dresden or under the onslaught of Genghis Khan's troops building mountains of skulls.

Sometimes entire continents are doomed, as most of negro Africa is doomed...by superstition, AIDS, cholera, central planning, and stupidity in general.

India and Pakistan will probably whack each other with nukes. So? Not my problem. And not the job of my government to send "peace keepers" to these hell holes.

This applies in spades to aid for Israel. Here we support a band of 20th century European Jews going to Palestine to kick Arab farmers and merchants off their land. The State of Israel will eventually be nuked by freedom fighters. I, for one, will cheer.

Fact is, a couple of billion folks on this planet are gonna die. It's easier if one not only gets used to this idea, but actually sees it as just part of evolution in action.

No need to be pessimistic about the nature of evolution.
