I think anyone who puts out rumors like that, that has a position in the stock (like short) prior to putting the rumor out and trades the stock (like covering a short position) after it's out (if it's found out to be untrue) or initiates a position after the rumor is out (like buying the stock when it's down and selling when it recovers) should have some kind of penalty.

Of course... if stocks were priced closer to historical valuations, that probably wouldn't hurt the stock all that much. Lots of stocks are really priced much higher than historical valuations and so I think there is risk out there.

My sweetie has told me for years (20 at least) the stock market is a rigged game. He might be proved right.
