Yes, "Invaders from Mars." There was a trashy remake of that more recently.

"Them" was cool with the giant ants, a product of the A-bomb experiments in Nevada. It all ends in the mammoth storm drains of L.A., which have figured in a lot of B movies. James Arness not only played "The Thing," but was also in "Them" as an FBI agent. Another good flick, similar to "Mars," is "It Came from Outer Space," circa 1954. This is a sensible, well-made film, in which the head alien is a giant transparent blob holed up in a cave, who also gets into people's heads. I have seen "Triffids," but for some reason never took to it. I guess we all have out pet likes and dislikes when it come to aliens.
