ICG was never anything more than a weak, immature imitation of the worst conglomerates of the sixties. But they did have the midas touch for a while - if you were quick enough to sell whatever gold they created before anyone noticed it was fools gold. I was sitting in their San Francisco office in March 2000, presenting our plan to a twenty-something know-it-all who made multi-million dollar decisions, when news hit about some Hong Kong company they invested in. The stock doubled or tripled or quadrupled on the news.

Silly times, they were.

Pretty silly now, too. IMO.

Bob

PS: I laugh now whenever I think about how big a deal the "'40 act" was then.
