Gemstar (GMST: news, chart, profile) suffered a legal setback late Friday when an administrative law judge ruled against the publisher of TV Guide on patents it holds for interactive technology. Gemstar had claimed its patents for television listings used in satellite TV and on cable were infringed by EchoStar Communications (DISH: news, chart, profile), Scientific-Atlanta (SFA: news, chart, profile) and Pioneer Corp. (PIO: news, chart, profile) Gemstar said it would appeal the ruling to the full U.S. International Trade Commission -- DISH appeared to be moving up some in the post market on Friday. I bought some as a speculative play.
