Keeping someone locked away for a dozen years while telling them over and over they are going to be killed is rather tramatising. I find particularly bewildering the cases where a prisoner is driven to attempt suicide only to be forced into a hospital until they are healthy enough to be killed at the time and choosing of their captors. It is really a sick process.

One of the great sufferings of death row is the day to day brutality. Every detail of these men's lives says to them: "You don't deserve to live."
