Re: "Your false assumptions seem to be that everything was working fine until vouchers came along, and vouchers have now screwed up a perfectly running system."

Wrong again. I have never once stated that "everything was working fine." Let me state my position for the 19th time. This time listen for a change:

Public education needs help. In some places, it needs major help. If you want to discuss drastic, revolutionary, out-of-the-box solutions, fine. I'll listen. If you want to reinvent the public education wheel, fine. I'll listen.

Just don't tell me that vouchers are going to change the big picture. They're not. They're nothing more than a Republican "feel-good" band-aid to a major problem.

Voters in two major states (Michigan and California) overwhelmingly stated at the polls in November '00 that they don't want vouchers. Use the money instead to improve the schools, they said.

What part of "no" don't you understand? What part of 70 yes and 30 no don't you understand?

Re: "Another inner city teenager graduates without learning to read his diploma."

The high school dropout rate at many inner-city schools now stands at 75 percent. I suspect for those that do graduate, they need no help reading their diplomas.
