Conspiracy? Screw-up? Incompetence? Comments?

The whole article is based on timelines of events and inuendo. Not very solid to support a conspiracy theory. I'm not even sure that he has enough to suggest that there might have been a conspiracy.

There's a few things that we know about 'people' in places of power. They have big egos; when things go right, the words "we" and "I" are used extensively [even if they were out on the golf course]; when things go wrong, the words "they" and "we didn't" are used extensively. You just don't see people of power stand up on national TV, saying ...I screwed up, it's my fault. This leads to all sorts of contortions of the English language when speaking to the public or the press.

We tend to think of the Hollywood version of the military. We would be more realistic if we thought the military was like the staff at McDonalds armed with high tech weapons. I might take a blind wager that if we had IQ scores of all McDonalds employees vs. IQ scores of all the military, McDonalds might just edge them out.

Most likely just a bunch of people missing things with deadly consequences.

I think that's far closer than the conspiracy theory. But I also think that there were major screw-ups at the FBI. The overuse of 'culture' as an excuse is a spin. Intelligence is worthless if it doesn't get to the right people at the right time and they know what to do with it. I can appreciate the "fog of war" problem, but when the intelligence agencies don't pass signicant intelligence around to those that need it, cultural problem is an understatement. That problem is better described as incompetence. That's perhaps too harsh, but they would be more motivated to correct incompetence, than they would culture.

I'm out on vacation till the 7th July. Back to the States for some family and friends visiting.
