Or Arafat starts performing tomorrow, speeches, cut the education hate, run after a few Hamasies wherever the Isies let him, send the Isies some files of addresses of guys to arrest, with copy to the CIA please, for double proof; and if he fails to "perform", Sharon can kick him out with all his staff

Oh, it was definitely the best speech that Sharon could have hoped for. Democracy first, dudes, we're tired of this terrorism sh-t, then you'll get your state afterwards. I find it hard to imagine anything better guaranteed to enrage the Arab world. The Palestinians will embrace terrorism twice as hard, to show they can't be bossed. The question is, does Sharon now have the green light to get rid of Arafat?

From Sharon's point of view, it's an improvement. From Bush's point of view, he should have kept his mouth shut. The US did itself no good today.

They must be mourning at the Near Eastern desk of the State Department tonight. Now, there's a happy thought. -g-
