Well missy I could use that study in my teaching if I knew it was scientifically valid. Some children are much more prone to think a teacher is angry than other children. Of course some teachers ARE angry, but I rarely raise my voice |(and rarely get angry). And yet some children will say "You're yelling at me" (I remember one from last year) when you are merely telling them what they don't want to hear- it is very interesting. I take votes now, to reality check for me AND the student in question. I remember last year we had one - "Am I yelling, quick vote" I said. Only one child raised a hand for yelling- the child In Question. After that we had a talk about WHY he thought I was yelling. I never thought to ask him about his home life though. That can be touchy- but maybe if a kid is yelled at all the time, when he is in the wrong, he begins to think any correction is accompanied by "yelling" even if it isn't. Kind of like an auditory halucination. I am sure HE believed I was yelling- which is why I took the vote- because I was sure he wouldn't believe me.
