Thanks for the interesting article. You can see all those lands on "visibleearth.nasa.gov" scroll down to "location" then pick "countries", then Qatar, click the 1 mega plus picture!
On the same picture, just the details of Iran, to the north are more than worth the visit. Some roads are visible in the Golf states, as harbors and cities etc. I did not find the airport. The reason for the fifteen thousand feet runway is because of air temperature (expanded by heat, so more room needed).
