I think a society is morally decadent when a killer is worth more than the crime he committed. He certainly does not warrant further study as kholt suggests.

Nothing I have said has anything to do with concern for the killer. I don't give a damn what happens to violent criminals. They deserve whatever they get. I've entertained the idea of reviving Devil's Island on these threads before. My interest in studying criminals is for our sake, not theirs.

The difference is not that I am soft on criminals while you are not. I'm not a bit soft on criminals. The difference is that you and I construe our interests and the interests of society differently. You would find satisfaction in the punishment and I wouldn't. It is the punishment-centric approach that I am questioning.
