Zarlink Gets Demodulator Chip Pact From Samsung

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

OTTAWA -- Zarlink Semiconductor Inc. (ZL) will supply its advanced demodulator chip to Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. (Q.SEM) for a new terrestrial network interface module, or TNIM, that will power set-top boxes and televisions targeted for the emerging terrestrial digital television consumer market.

The value of the order wasn't disclosed.

In a news release, Zarlink said Samsung Electro-Mechanics has designed Zarlink's MT351 demodulator into its newest TNIM, a key component inside set-top boxes and televisions that comply with the DVB-T (digital video broadcast for terrestrial) standard.

Zarlink said it worked closely with Samsung Electro-Mechanics to optimize the MT351's performance and low-power characteristics.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics supplies parts and components to the electronics industry.
