I read your post and I think of the scenario in a soccer game (as opposed to base ball and A. football).

The main objection (on my part at least) is that the possibility of using this particular situation as an excuse to STOP the game is just too great.

Momentum is a big element in soccer, i.e. a team ties a game, and all of a sudden things are looking up to go ahead in the game... the game needs to progress... all of a sudden you stop it due to a questionable call... and.... momentum is lost.

This is so important that even on regular play... there is what is called "the advantage law" (this is a translation and I do not know the term in English if it has a different reference)...

The point is... say a team is advancing and a mid-fielder passes the ball to the next player and in the process at the moment of the pass, the defending team commits a foul on the player that passed the ball... however the pass is good and puts the attacking team on an "advantegeous" position, (hence the name), the good refs, do NOT stop play and allow the foul to go unchecked... in order to let the attacking team get full advantage of the play.

Now...

A sensor that would become normal practice, once proof of its efficiency is accepted, is a possibility (particularly with the off-side rule.

The video replay... is a different story. I can see the clear benefit in a case using the Spanish goal... but in practice, this opens the possibility for continued arguing (even with the video ) and most importantly... the stop of play... I think that would be a detriment to the game imo
