Up til now, there haven't been any real good practical applications for Stirling engines due to their limitations. Computers and improved technology has changed some of those limitations. Could be a boon for DB computing, if distributed energy becomes a big field. Imagine having to manage a grid that is decentralized? Not to mention any number of other fields that are suddenly opened to the possibility of cheap, accesible energy and transportation. I have jumped too early on previous ideas (superconducting/food sanitation/fuel cells), but this one is alot more easy to understand and seems pretty much ready to break wide open. Kamen's got a heck of a track record behind him, too....can't ignore that. One of my neighbors is an energy lawyer. He was telling me quite a bit about Kamen and his history. Apparently, Kamen's name is appearing on more and more of the work he is doing. He didn't get specific, which has me wondering exactly what he's doing (energy law, obviously...LOL), but I'm surprised that this guy (who previously spent more time in medicine) is suddenly popping up in the energy field.
