I'd look for a dark pattern against a bright sky and aim for the center of mass.

Given that most geese present a larger "pattern" in comparison to a commercial jet flying at height, I'd wager you'll have more to worry about from the local fish and game authorities than the FAA or FBI... :0)

If antiaircraft missile design was more difficult for larger missiles, then why did the US start at the very high end of the scale?

And what was the effective warhead weight of those missiles?? They used proximity fuzes due to their poor accuracy. They'd literally spray a large area with shrapnel in hopes that they would hit the target... They certainly were not particularly efficient at flying up a tailpipe.
