Hi MARY_A.
Following is Pure Theory, but I agree with your
decision(s) re: "gaps"!
It is my understanding that a "gap" or "window"
(Japanese Candlestick term)
closing HIGHER is bullish in nature, and forms
a resistance. This works up to the point
that the initial "gap" has been filled by a downward
movement. Somewhat gets into the American "head and
shoulders" top pattern. A "gap", in simplistic terms,
represents a "continuation pattern" - but when the
"gap" has been broken (for an upward movement), watch
out (called a three budda top).
The converse is true with a bottom pattern. If resist.
has been broken going upward, you may expect a movement
upward. IMHO, "gaps" play a very important part of TA.

Of course, in a market run by sentiment and fear, most
(if not all) TA goes out the window!
Take care, and Best Wishes!
