The deal is important, but it has been misunderstood. Netscape is co-marketing with opentext and documentum. This program helps moves licenses of netscape servers. It does not guarantee a revenue stream for either vendor, nor does it provide an "endorsement" of any product as the "chosen" solution. I have heard from a good source that novasoft and pcdocs are also about to announce a co-marketing arrangement with netscape, just like opentext and documentum. This is in netscape's best interest - get application vendors using their infrastructure. The last thing netscape wants to do is anger one application vendor by picking a competitive product to selectively market. Look at netscape's model as similar to oracle and microsoft - recruit as many applications as possible to take advantage of netscape features - and therefore pull more netscape products as infrastructure.

The stock price movement of Netscape, Microsoft, or Oracle, for that matter, will have little effect on the document management vendors.
