The WCOM debacle is exactly what the TCOM sector needs. Before the equipment and components providers can get healthy, the service providers must get healthy. Because the size of the TCOM services market has shrunk so substantially, we need major restructuring among the service providers. Bankruptcies alone will not be sufficient if the bankrupt firms continue operating. We need several large TCOM services firms to stop operations and have their assets sold off or ,better yet, rust in the ground. We also need major consolidation among the remaining firms. There are far to many competitors chasing remaining demand. Perhaps the WCOM debacle will accelerate this process and we can get on the road to recovery.
