Dead? Not under your model. No retribution, remember?

"Out of society" means just what it says. It could be prison. It could be death. It could mean wearing a bell around your neck or a tattoo on your forehead. It could mean Devil's Island. It means whatever restraints are necessary to keep that person from being a danger to society. In theory, if batterers were to, say, wear orange uniforms and a beeper like they have on buoys to warn boaters off, they might be able to walk our streets and we would be virtually as safe as if they were in prison. Perhaps a castrated sexual abuser could safely live among us. Out of society is unspecified. Presumably, various mechanisms would be defined and developed. Using those mechanisms would be for prevention of further acts, not retribution.
