You post has an hysterical tone, and relies on personal insult and conjecture rather than providing any information indicating that the average American (not people who converse at a high level on Silicon Investor) have the investing savvy to navigate the securities markets, as they presently "function."

Frankly, your implication that the Constitution, our civil liberties and the Republic itself is at risk if the Social Security system remains as it is may be better evidence than I could ever muster that people do not tend to address complex financial issues with a rational and cool head.

I work in the securities industry and have direct exposure to average investors on a daily basis. Do you?

From this experience, I have not concluded (as you assume) that the average American is an ignoramus.

I have concluded that Joe and Jane America do not stand a chance in a market where our most exalted corporate officials lack morals, ethics and honesty. My conclusion is that until corporate morality is restored, the market is no place for honest people.

I'm buying CD's.
